Gischachsummen (Lenni-Lenape,
meaning One Who Enlightens)
Ceremonial
and Dance Team
Gischachsummen is the
committee of youth Arrowmen and adult advisers who are responsible for "enlightening"
their fellow brothers in the Grand Monadnock Lodge. This "enlightenment" is accomplished in two ways:
Gischachsummen
is the group the coordinates and performs the Ordeal and Brotherhood induction
ceremonies, which inspire Arrowmen and remind us of our obligations to
cheerful service. These ceremonies are the highlight of the first induction
process, called the Ordeal, and the level of membership beyond Ordeal
membership, known as Brotherhood.
Gischachsummen also
enlighten others about the history and culture of the first Americans
through crafts, singing, and dance. We have a team of plains-style contemporary
and traditional dancers and singers who perform regularly for Scout events
and community groups as well as attending pow-wows and hobbyist functions.
Scouting units or
community groups who wish to have Gischachsummen perform a program of
Native American dance can fill out their online form to request a show.
If you wish to contact the team for more information,
may contact the Gischachsummen Chairman at the information below.
Gisch meets on the
second and fourth Tuesday of each month (except for July and August, when
we meet at Camp Wanocksett each Wednesday evening for the Call-Out Ceremony)
from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. All interested Arrowmen, youth or adult, are welcome
to attend and check us out.
They
are always looking for new people to join and have fun!!
The GML
Links Page has an extensive list of Native American resources
to be found on the Internet.
